Fit Momma Michelle sent in her experience of running her first half marathon. I love how it was a family affair.
SET YOUR GOAL:
What was your goal and why did you set it?
The summer after I had my first baby, I was really wanting to get back into shape. I told my husband I wanted to run a half marathon, and surprisingly he said he would do it with me! Another bonus was that my twin sister, my sister-in-law, and her soon to be husband wanted to join in too. It was fabulous having the support team that we did!
Describe the plan you set up to help you reach your goal.
Since my husband and I wanted to do it together and we had a 7 month old, we decided that we would do all of our runs pushing him in our jogging stroller. At first it was not so bad since we had not packed on a lot of miles, but it did get much more intense as we got further in our training.
REACH YOUR GOALS:
We trained hard and when race day came we did it! I finished it in 2 hours flat, and my husband came in a few seconds faster. My twin sister was right with me as well, and my sister in law and her husband finished 10 minutes or so ahead of us. My dear mother watched our son while we ran. Running without pushing that stroller made us feel like we were flying!
What were the rewards?
Finishing that half marathon was the best feeling in the world. I knew it would be hard to train for it, but we set up a plan and did it!
SURPASS YOUR GOALS:
I would love to run another half marathon or a marathon this year as well to see if I can improve my time.
Thanks for sharing, Michelle! I love how everyone pitched in to make this work. That really helps when trying to pull something like this off with a little one in tow.
Hey, Fit Mommas, we love an inspirational story! If you have set and completed a goal, email me for the details and I’d love to share your experience with Trainer Momma readers.
